Albums of 2005

(Frontrunner for Album of 2006)

I figure if the Voice still hasn't published Pazz & Jop, it's not too late for my list.

1. Spoon – Gimme Fiction
My favorite band; their best album yet. They sound exactly how I want a band to sound.
2. M.I.A. – Arular
Over-hyped? Yes. Still tremendously exciting and synapse-tickling? Yes.
3. Antony and the Johnsons – I am a Bird Now
Because of the songs and the voice, my god, the voice.
4. Fiona Apple – Extraordinary Machine
Stupid music-industry non-story of the year distracts from talented artist who knows what she wants—and what she wants is great!
5. Okkervil River – Black Sheep Boy
Ohohoho I love this album. Latest addition to the list. “For Real” would be song of the year, if not for “Since U Been Gone”.
6. Kanye West – Late Registration
Amazing what professionalism and quality control can do for the hip-hop album. And “Gold Digger” makes me laugh more than cringe.
7. The Fiery Furnaces – EP
This band's b-sides > most bands’ best songs.
8. The New Pornographers – Twin Cinema
Don’t let previous-albums-induced high standards take away from another killer power-pop record.
9. LCD Soundsystem – S/T
Remember this? At its best, it’s still really fucking good.
10. Franz Ferdinand – You Could Have It So Much Better
Haters never prosper; don’t you want to have a good time?

What's with the posting from the future, diddy?
